A new report from the official CaseMe claims that Samsung will integrate the S Pen tray into the body. To achieve this, Samsung is said to increase the weight of the Galaxy Fold 5 to 275 grams. Additionally, At 6.5mm thick when unfolded, it’s 0.2mm thicker than its predecessor, while also weighing 12g heavier.
The increased volume this time is to support Samsung’s S Pen, which will be stored inside the fuselage like the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. That would be a big design step, as Galaxy Z Fold 4 owners currently have to buy one of the best Galaxy Z Fold 4 cases to keep the pen and phone together. Therefore, this apparent extra thickness can yield more convenient functions.
The Samsung Galaxy Fold 5 will pack Qualcomm’s yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon 985 5G chip. The latter should use a 4nm process. We’re guessing Samsung will customize this chip for its foldable phone. We still don’t know if it can rival the second-gen Snapdragon 8. But it’s certainly a lot more powerful than the Galaxy Z Fold 4’s Snapdragon 8+.
The Samsung Galaxy Fold 5 features a larger 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The latter makes the screen smoother and more responsive when scrolling through apps or playing games. There’s also an ultra-thin glass layer for extra durability.
