The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra case reveals its design

A new Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra case has leaked, and according to leaked images, it has something we’ve never seen before: a new sensor on the rear camera block, additional sensors appear next to the four rear cameras in the render.

The five cameras (or four cameras and one sensor) seen in the leaked images are huge blocks of cameras. At least in appearance, two leaks of the Samsung Galaxy S21 showed a huge camera block extending to the side of the phone, taking up the entire corner of the Ultra version’s back cover.

Last year’s Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus and S20 Ultra phones added an additional sensor to the baseline Galaxy S20’s rear camera: a time-of-flight sensor that measures the distance of light. Ideally, this will improve depth-related photos taken using the portrait style’s real-time focus mode, and speed up the focus and make the photos more accurate.

The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max are rumored to have their own additional sensors, but it turns out to be the LiDar sensor previously seen on the iPad Pro 2020. Although the LiDar is a kind of time-of-flight sensor, it works well in low light and actually allows the new iPhone line to take portrait mode photos using the lighting effects of night mode. It can also speed up and improve AR functions.

According to rumors, the Galaxy S21 Ultra will continue to use the 108MP sensor as the primary CAM and the 40MP sensor in the selfie camera to match the S20 Ultra. It is unknown whether there are any resolution independent upgrades and other camera module functions.

That said, it’s clear that the 2021 model has at least one more camera than the S20 Ultra. Other manufacturers already have two telephoto lenses on the top of their flagship products, and it’s not hard to imagine Samsung doing the same.
