Apple insiders say the iPhone 12 will not come with Earpods or a phone charger, and that it will even drop the charger in the iPhone SE 2 pack at a later date.
Apple is said to be doing this because the cost of upgrading the iPhone to 5G will increase, reducing the overall cost and maintaining a starting price similar to the iPhone 11.
By removing the charger and earphone from the package, the package can also be smaller in size, which will further save on shipping costs and be “more environmentally friendly”. In addition, the incentive to buy AirPods is believed to be an important reason for apple to do so.
While there are reports that the charger is no longer attached, there are also reports that Apple is working on a new 20W quick charge. A 10.8-inch iPad is said to be on the market this year, followed by an 8.5-inch iPad Mini in the first half of 2021. These ipads are thought to be equipped with a new 20W fast charge.
To cut costs, Apple is likely to introduce a 4G version of the entry-level 5.4-inch iPhone 12, maintaining a starting price similar to the iPhone 11, sources said. Based on previous price analysis, Apple is likely to offer several iPhone 12s with 5G versions at $649, $749, $999 and $1,099. The 5.4-inch 4G version of the iPhone 12 could cost as little as $549.
