Despite the name of the Fan Edition, the phone is expected to be a low-cost alternative to the regular S20, rather than a device for enthusiasts. It is rumoured to retain core features such as a 120Hz high-speed display, Snapdragon 865 (in some models) and a three-rear camera, but will make many sacrifices to cut costs, including a lower 1080p screen, reduced RAM (6GB or 8GB) and an 8mp 3X telepixel lens, rather than a cut-out 48MP sensor.
Some versions are expected to ditch 5G for LTE and use Exynos 990 chips, but it is unclear whether Verizon will follow the route.
There is no official word on when the S20 Fan Edition will arrive or whether other operators will sell it. The videos arrived on Verizon’s website in late August, suggesting that preparations had been under way for some time. If so, you may not have to wait long to try out the more affordable Galaxy. If you’re ready to buy the phone, buy its accessories in advance on the official CaseMe Case website.
