Apple has announced that the iPhone 13 will launch in September, and when it arrives, it will compete with the latest Samsung Galaxy flagship phone. The iPhone 13, which has been upgraded five times, should have an edge over the Galaxy S21.
The iPhone 13 will feature numerous camera upgrades, but Apple still has a lot of work to do when it comes to telephoto lenses. Currently, the iPhone 12 Pro can be up to twice as fast, while the 12 Pro Max can be up to 2.5 times faster. By comparison, even the basic Galaxy S21 has a 3x optical zoom. If you take a look at the S21 Ultra, it also has a second telephoto lens with a maximum of 10x and a possible digital zoom of 100x.
The iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max should offer at least 3x optical performance to keep up with Samsung. Also, I’d love to see Apple experiment with Samsung’s Zoom Lock feature, such as the Galaxy S21, which uses AI to stabilize shots while zooming in. This is a feature I like to use on the Galaxy S21 Plus, and does a good job of shaking on the backhand side.
The iPhone 13 Mini and iPhone 13 May lock the 60Hz or 120Hz display. We think the Pro model will have variable refresh rates that will adjust based on what’s on the display. This means that static things like photos fade away, but videos, scrolls, and games get a full 120Hz frequency.
The iPhone 12 charges very slowly, with a maximum charge of 20 watts. Samsung isn’t great at this either, so Apple could double the size of its biggest rival by offering faster wired and wireless charging.
MagSafe charges faster, not least because Apple no longer includes charging bricks in its phones and is promoting the new line of accessories. But it’s easy to marvel at the charging speed of the iPhone 13 because, so far, it’s not great. We didn’t expect to find something as crazy as the 65W in the latest OnePlus phone, but it’s far more powerful than what we have now.
We’ve heard rumors that Touch ID, with its built-in fingerprint sensor, will return. Many Android phones have this feature, especially the Galaxy S21 series. Apple can get around the mask restrictions – because not everyone can use the Apple Watch to unlock their phone and offer the convenience of having a fingerprint sensor again.
There’s no doubt that the iPhone 13 will be a powerful device, but we hope some of the suggestions will make it the final product, especially the high refresh rate display and Touch ID.
