Apple’s new iPhone 12 series is expected to break iPhone 11 sales records. That being said, we now know that Apple is working on a more radical version of the iPhone 13. Details leaked for the first time today by Jon Prosser, an Apple insider, reveal that Apple is indeed building the next iPhone 13, which will be completely port-less and only charge via MagSafe.

Jon Prosser explains, “Not all iphones will be port-less next year, but they will be… A transition is taking place.” Given the positive endorsement of the MagSafe launch of the iPhone 12, some iPhone 13 models next year will be port-less, most likely the iPhone 13 Pro Max, as Apple is developing a new iPhone 13 Pro Max MagSafe Case.

The biggest problem at the moment is charging speed. Currently, MagSafe only reaches 15W maximum power, and if Apple doesn’t improve charging efficiency, charging on the road can be frustrating. The company can also increase the speed of compatible Qi wireless chargers because the popular industry standard (capable of supporting 15W) is limited to only 7.5W in the iPhone 12 series.

Apple can go all out to make its new iPhone 13 Pro Max its next flagship model. Apple could use the space saved by removing the Lightning port to fit larger batteries and ease the charging worries on the road. Hopefully Apple will follow the example of the iPhone 12 Pro Max and once again limit the best cameras in the range to the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Combined with the 120Hz ProMotion LPTO display, the return of Touch ID and the massive storage increase, iPhone fans may be persuaded to give up the cable.
